M's Survey: ★★★★☆

Have you tasted Sri Lankan cuisine? I had not and went to a Sri Lankan restaurant in East Village with friends this weekend. I had no clue what Sri Lankan cuisine is, and according to the owner of the restaurant, it is influenced by Indian, Portuguese, Dutch, Malay, etc. and cooked with a variety of harbs and spices.

Okay, I have to be honest that I still do not get exactly what Sri Lankan cuisine is, neither do my friends. Thus, it is easy to guess that we ordered whatever the owner recommended:
1) Appetizer Sampler
- For the sake of trying as many item as we can...the sampler includes 2 Dhal Vade, 2 Fish Cutlets, 2 Sri Lankan Vegetable Spring Rolls and 2 Sri Lankan Fish Spring Rolls
2) Sri Lankan Style Stew
3) String Hopper Kotthu
- A Sri Lankan street-side specialty prepared from spaghetti-like strings of rice-flour dough squeezed through a sieve onto smallwoven trays, which are steamed to perfection, chopped into shreds, stir fried with vegetables, onions, and egg. With choice of beef or chicken.
4) Desserts
- We had Flan and Banana Fritters
5) Coffee

It was quite tasty and surprisingly cheap. Sigiri is a BYOB (Bring Your Own Beers/Booze) place, and exclusing drinks we brought, we, four of us, only paid $20 each, including over 20% tip. I am pretty sure that I will come back there soon!
